The Atoumo Dialysis Center of the NEV Healthcare Division (Nouvelles Eaux Vives) was inaugurated last Friday (*).

The project had been in development for three years, bringing together all stakeholders with the shared goal of expanding access to care across the Côte-sous-le-Vent region.

As Henri Nagapin emphasized in his remarks, “despite a challenging environment, talent prevails,” noting that the project was completed without delays thanks to strong teamwork and commitment. Until now, residents of northern Basse-Terre were required to travel for hours—often under difficult conditions—to receive dialysis treatment three times a week.

“A Transitional Care Hub”

The opening of this community-based center is intended to improve comfort and quality of life for many residents of the Côte-sous-le-Vent. “The Atoumo Center in Pointe-Noire is a real opportunity,” said Florelle Bradamantis, Deputy Director of the Regional Health Agency (ARS) Guadeloupe.

The In-Center Dialysis and Self-Dialysis units are designed for adult patients with less severe conditions. “This facility serves as a transitional care hub, complementing the main dialysis center in Basse-Terre, with the goal of promoting greater patient independence. It operates under a different level of care,” explained Khlaed Djoudi, Director of Care at the newly opened center.

This new facility will significantly improve patients’ quality of life by reducing travel time for those living in this region of Basse-Terre.

Designed by the firm Be.architecture, the center meets patients’ expectations for a welcoming and comfortable environment while offering state-of-the-art medical technology supported by a dedicated healthcare team. The result speaks for itself: the site has been described as a true “living space,” endorsed by Alain Bravo, President of the France Rein Guadeloupe association.

Located in downtown Pointe-Noire, near the Beauperthuy Hospital Center, in newly constructed facilities, the center is intended to serve patients from across the region between Sainte-Rose and Bouillante. It will also accommodate visitors, who until now had to stay in Grande-Terre to ensure continuity of care.

For Camille Elisabeth, Mayor of Pointe-Noire, the center represents a valuable opportunity for the municipality:
“I am proud to welcome the NEV dialysis center to our community. It is both a source of reassurance and a significant asset—not only for local residents but also for visitors, who can now stay in our area without interrupting their treatment. Economic development can be driven by tourism, but also by healthcare, and we hope to see more facilities like this established in the future.”

(*) The inauguration was attended by Henri Nagapin, CEO of NEV; Florelle Bradamantis; Dr. Henri Merault, nephrologist and lead physician; Alain Bravo; and Camille Elisabeth, in the presence of staff and a limited number of guests due to the public health situation.
